new design site
Wednesday, September 30th, 2009Ever since being unceremoniously fired from (sounds like “Taserdouche”) in early 2009, I’ve been freelancing. Well, I’ve finally gotten my act together and created a site for my design work.

What is “postmodern sublime,” you ask? Well, it comes from an article by musicologist Robert Fink, which I read while I was at UCLA studying music. Fink didn’t invent the term (social theorist Fredric Jameson described “the postmodern sublime” as the simultaneous apprehension of dread and ecstasy), but he applied it to a moment in Beethoven 9 that really resonated with me. (The “Vor Gott” moment, if you’re wondering.)
To me, the internet is “the postmodern sublime” — an alternately delightful and horrifying, man-made and deified, ever-expanding and ever-”niche-ifying” playground/wasteland. What does it mean vis-a-vis web design? Eh, I’m writing this at 4:15 am having just finished the site and my brain’s really much too soggy for hollow analysis.
