wordpress 2.7 initial impressions

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I just upgraded to Wordpress version 2.7 for this site. It’s almost like a real CMS! Here’s what I think:

  • Main menu on the left side? What the hell? Everyone knows horizontal menus at the top of the page are the way to go.
  • But the new Screen Options feature is pretty good, and
  • it’s about damn time you can upload a plugin as a .zip file.
  • The automatic upgrade to the latest WP version is nice too.
  • GUI is a lot nicer. It’s amazing how everything in the Web world is getting more Mac-like. :)
  • Still using TinyMCE for the HTML editor=weak.
  • The design makes use of all available real estate (probably why there’s a left-side menu instead of on top) I like that more and more designs are accommodating a widescreen monitor. IE6 is still alive, but we’re slowly entering the 21st century.
